Renowned television actress Rupali Ganguly rose to fame with her portrayal of Monisha Sarabhai in the hit show Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. After going on a hiatus after her wedding in 2013, she made a smashing comeback with Rajan Shahi’s hit show Anupamaa. She has been headlining the show ever since it started airing in 2020. Recently she opened up about why she feels that the makers of the show took a huge risk casting her as a lead.

Over the decades, actors irrespective of their real age have played characters of every age limit on the small screen. Being one of the highest-paid senior actresses on television, in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, she expressed her gratitude towards Shahi for casting her in Anupamaa and giving her an opportunity to showcase her talent. Quoted by Pinkvilla, she said, “I thank God that he chose me to play the character, his protagonist, and gave me the opportunity not only to showcase my talent but he also took a huge risk with casting a 42-year-old protagonist for the role of a 42-year-old.” She went on to express how nowadays producers cast younger actresses to play the roles of mothers on-screen. For the unversed, the actress had taken a hiatus after she married her longtime boyfriend Ashwin Verma in 2013. The couple welcomed their son Rudransh in 2015. She made her much awaited comeback on television with Anupamaa which also stars Gaurav Khanna, Sudhanshu Pandey, Chhavi Pandey and Madalsa Sharma Chakraborty among many others.
